Second Saturday of October
International African Penguin Awareness Day
To raise awareness about the endangered status of the African penguin, the day was first organized by the Two Oceans Aquarium in South Africa in 2010 to highlight the threats faced by these unique birds, such as habitat loss, overfishing, and climate change. African penguins, known for their distinctive black and white plumage and endearing waddle, are a vital part of marine ecosystems.
