Kyoto Protocol Day

Adopted on 11 December 1997, this landmark international treaty aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and combat climate change by setting binding emission reduction targets for 37 industrialized countries and economies in transition. The protocol, which took effect on 16 February 2005, is grounded in the principle of "common but differentiated responsibilities".
